Asters at Waterperry Gardens

Now is the best time to see the wonderful displays of asters at Waterperry. The garden puts on dedicated aster weekends but I much prefer to go in the week when it can be very quiet. Today it rained heavily in the morning but in the afternoon the sun put in an appearance although rather fleetingly. A friend and I had the famous walled garden aster border to ourselves. Although some of the flowers were a bit bedraggled after the deluge of the thunderstorms of the night before, the colours shone out in the improving brightness. The light can have a special quality after a shower and had lost the haziness of the previous hot days, so we felt we picked a good time to visit
